Forging Weld Materials
Unequaled alloys for the joining, overlay and repair of forge and steel plant equipment and hot-work die steels.
Weld Mold® 525
Higher in alloy than 515 with correspondingly higher physical properties and hardness. Polytrode® 525 displays excellent toughness while maintaining superior machining characteristics. Uses include the repair of forging-hammer bases, sow blocks, bolster plates, columns, die shanks, rams and insert holders.
Rc 25-30
Specification: NA
Available forms: SMAW, FCAW
Weld Mold® 535
A chrome/nickel/moly/vanadium alloy which has established itself in as the forging industry standard for die-block repair. Good machinability and substantially improved die life makes this alloy the number one choice for the repair and reclamation of hot-work forging dies.
Rc 34-38
Specification: NA
Available forms: SMAW, FCAW
Weld Mold® 540
For joining, buildup, and repairing cracked or fractured steels, fabricating structures, machinery, assemblies and repair of equipment. Hot work applications include flooding complete impressions on forging dies. Widely used for overlays on dies, punches, inserts and other parts that require this hardness.
Rc 38-42
Specification: >NA
Available forms: SMAW, FCAW
Weld Mold® 545
A versatile alloy for repair and reclamation of certain hammer and press dies. EDM machining is recommended. Polytrode® H.D. 545 exhibits excellent properties at high temperatures.
Rc 40-45
Specification: NA
Available forms: SMAW, FCAW
Weld Mold® 5550
An alloy designed to resist abrasion, erosion and alternate heating and cooling cycles without thermal checking, even when coolant spray is employed. Uses include overlays on hot-working extrusion dies, punches and mandrels.
Rc 46-48
Specification: NA
Available forms: SMAW, FCAW
Weld Mold® 9650
A medium-carbon chrome/nickel/moly wear-resistant alloy for standard and high-energy forging dies. Deposits shock-resistant, extra-high-performance weld metal that reaches maximum hardness as deposited and is highly resistant to heat-checking, corrosion and wear.
Rc 44-46 as-welded, Rc 38-42 as tempered.
Specification: NA
Available forms: SMAW, FCAW
